MPAC hold a public hearing on 2016/17 Draft Annual Report

The Municipal Public Account Committee (MPAC) held a Public Hearing on the 2016/2017 Draft Annual Report at the CDM Council Chamber. The MPAC session chaired by Cllr Paulina Makgato was scheduled in terms of the public notice issued in terms of Section 21A of the Municipal Systems Act, No. 32 of 2000 and Section 130 of the Municipal Finance Management Act, No. 56 of 2003 as well as other financial management and governance issues covering the period 2016/2017 financial year.

The session held on 20 March 2018 at CDM Council Chamber at 10h00, although it was open to the public and interested stakeholders, they were only allowed to attend the session as observers. The MPAC submitted a list of questions to office of the municipal manager which derived from thorough assessment of the draft 2016/2017 Annual Report. The municipal manager Ms Nokuthula Mazibuko and her executive management team were publicly responding to the questions raised by the committee.

The MPAC questions raised were in line with the auditor general’s report and annual performance report of the six departments namely, Strategic Executive Management Services (SEMS), Infrastructure, Corporate Services, Finance, Community Services and Developmental Planning and Environmental Management Services.

The MPAC public hearing on the 2016/2017 Draft Annual Report was the last leg of the oversight sessions of which thereafter the committee would have to compile a report and submit it to Council meeting of the 28 March 2018.
