On 21 January 2025, she met with the Ramokgopa Traditional Council to clarify that the underground water in the area does not solely belong to a particular Moshate.
The misunderstanding has caused tension among the traditional authorities and communities facing a water shortage. The Executive Mayor highlighted the importance of the management of underground water, dams and other water sources that fall under the jurisdiction of the National Department of Water and Sanitation.
However, Meshate, as a responsible community leader, has a role in ensuring proper coordination, sharing and allocation of water to all the affected areas working closely with the ward councillor.
This meeting is a significant step towards finding a solution to the water crisis in the district and promoting unity among the local communities. The Executive Mayor’s dedication to addressing this issue is commendable and demonstrates her commitment to improving the lives of her communities.
The Executive Mayor and her entourage will also visit the water scheme at Eisleben to see progress.
