“Our hearts are heavy with loss. A formidable link in the chain of women’s leadership in our province and our country has been called to eternal rest,” said the Executive Mayor.
“While that chain may feel broken, we refuse to allow its pieces to scatter. Mme Magadzi taught us to rise with discipline, to stand firm in purpose, and to continue the work she carried with such devotion.”
The Executive Mayor said Mme Magadzi’s leadership left an indelible mark on institutions and communities, noting that many leaders drew strength and guidance from her example.
“Many of us stood on her shoulders. Her wisdom, humility and values strengthened our institutions and inspired generations, particularly women and young leaders,” the Executive Mayor said.
As the community gathered to lay her to rest, the Executive Mayor emphasised the responsibility of continuing her work.
“As we lay Mme Dikeledi Phillistus Magadzi to rest today, we accept the responsibility to carry the baton forward and to honour her legacy through continued service to our people,” she said.
The Executive Mayor also conveyed condolences to the Magadzi family, thanking them for sharing Mme Magadzi with the broader community.
“To Ntate Magadzi, the children and the entire family, thank you for entrusting us with the privilege of knowing and learning from such a courageous servant of the people. Her life was a blessing, and her memory will forever remain a treasure,” the Executive Mayor concluded.
Magadzi was laid to rest on 03 January 2026 at Silicon Cemetery in Polokwane.
