DISTRICT GOLDEN GAMES FOR ELDERY PEOPLE

“Our government must continue to look after the elderly. Such activities help us to stay healthy and fit. It also helps to minise chances of getting illnesses such as diabetes and hypertension,” said Adel Mototoka, from Solomondale. Mototoka took part in the 200m run at the Golden Games held on 15 September 2022 at Peter Mokaba Stadium in Polokwane.
Golden Games improves physical and mental health amongst older persons and promote exercising, encourage elders to do physical activities and promote active ageing.
CDM jointly with Department of Sports, Arts and Culture, Department of Social Department, Department of Health, Age in Action, Provincial Older Persons Forum, District Older Persons Forum, local municipalities , hosted the 2022 District Golden Games.
The games involving elders over 60 years-old, were hosted at the Old Peter Mokaba Stadium today. The games are played annually by senior citizens. The sporting codes were, soccer for men and women, athletics, duck walk, brisk walk, dress-up, ball kick and pass, relay, ring the stick, and others. The participants represented all four local municipalities (Blouberg, Lepelle-Nkumpi, Molemole and Polokwane) within the CDM.
