On 7th May, Capricorn District Municipality held a Children and Child Protection campaign at Ceres Primary School, Ceres Village, Polokwane Municipality. The campaign’s aim was to create awareness on the dangers of risky behaviors such as bullying, gangsterism, substance abuse amongst school children, to promote healthy and responsible lifestyle and raise awareness on the rights of children.
Different Stakeholders supported the event. These are Office of the Public Protector, National Institute For Crime Prevention and the Reintegration of Offenders (NICRO), Office of the Premier, South African National Council on Alcoholism And Drug Dependence (SANCA), Department of Education, Civil Society Organizations and South African Police Service (SAPS).
“We are leaving in a cruel world, children are being abused in different ways, things that are happening to our children, they ruin their future, we are gathered here because it’s a mandate to protect our children”, said Acting Executive Mayor MMC for SEMS Cllr. Solly Mahlatji. Cllr. Mahlatji was talking to learners at the school.
The theme for the event was “Every conversation matters.”
