“Capricorn District Municipality plays a significant role as an overall coordinator of gender mainstreaming programmes within the district. We offer support to enable our Non- Profit Organisation (NPO) to operate, create platforms for sharing best practices and ideas through our gender forum”, this was said by Cllr Jara Masubelele, Member of the Mayoral Committee (MMC) responsible for Strategic Executive Management Service (SEMS) during the Gender Links and donors verification visit held at CDM on 11 November 2019.
The verification visit started with an official welcome of the Gender Links donors from the African Women’s Development Fund Ms Renee Ago Djanie, Ms Beatrice Boakye-Yiadom and the Gender links Head of Governance and Sexual Reproductive Health Rights (SRHR) programme Ms Sifiso Dube. The meeting commenced with a brief programme wherein CDM outlined its gender mainstreaming programmes in particular the support it gives to NPO’s with the Polokwane Municipal area and an interview of NPOs on their community development work and their role toward SRHR programmes.
The delegations proceeded to Polokwane Municipality Special Programmes Centre wherein there were taken through the role of the municipality towards gender mainstreaming after it was declared the Centre of Excellence by Gender Links. The Assistant Manager Special Programmes at Polokwane Municipality Dr. Glen Mhango took the delegation through the municipal special programmes structure, the impact and contributions of the team towards special programmes initiatives. Dr. Mhango took the delegation on a tour of the condom distribution centre and its operation.
The visit ended with a site viewing of Seshego Outdoor gym which also has a playground. The visit was attended by NPO members from Kgatelopele Youth Group, Bulamahlo Home Based Carer, AWDF, Activate Leadership, Mokgadiwe and Vuthlarhi Projects.
