IN a move set to unblock bottlenecks that delay completion of water projects, Capricorn District Municipality has put spanner in the works to complete all rollover projects.
In the last financial year, 54 water and sanitation projects were rolled over to the current financial year and the mid-year projections indicate that, of the 54 incomplete projects that were rolled over, 39 were completed by end of December. Further that rapid progress in the outstanding 15 projects was noted. This means that contractors are working round the clock to complete the remaining ones.
Executive Mayor Gilbert Kganyago has vowed to ensure that all outstanding projects are completed and commissioned in the current quarter. This, he reckons, will be done by surmounting all challenges that caused delays by engaging Eskom to speed up the electrification of boreholes; resolving community conflicts on projects, among other interventions.
This move comes as a systematic, deliberate, strategic programme to expedite service delivery and reprioritise critical projects and reinvigorate efforts to deliver within defined timeframes and avoid returning funds to national government.
