The Capricorn District Municipality held build-up event towards the International Day for Disaster Risk Reduction (IDDR) at Matoks Plaza in Molemole on 10 October 2025. The event formed part of the ongoing district-wide awareness campaign aimed at promoting community resilience and preparedness against disasters.Various sector departments and stakeholders participated in the programme, presenting their respective roles in disaster management and community safety. Among them were representatives from the South African Police Service, Sassa, Department of Health, Social Development, Eskom, Fire and Rescue Services, Batho Pele and disaster unit.
Speaking during the event, MMC for Community Services Cllr Rahlana emphasised the importance of collective action in mitigating risks and strengthening early warning systems at community level. The session also included public education on fire safety, climate change adaptation, and emergency response.
The IDDR build-up programme will continue across different municipalities within Capricorn District, leading up to the main commemoration event, which will consolidate the district’s disaster risk reduction efforts under the theme “Fighting inequality for a resilient future.”
