On Friday Capricorn District Municipality hosted 53 learners from various schools in the Capricorn North and South region for the ‘Take a girl and boy child to work programme’ held in partnership with South African Broadcasting Corporations (SABC), MTN and Limpopo Department of Education.
“We have men and women who are working side-by-side and sharing knowledge and wisdom to get things done. But to work here, requires you to take education seriously and study hard,” said Cllr Matome Masoga representing the Executive Mayor Cllr Mamedupi Teffo addressing learners.
Learners also received food for thoughts from Motivational Speaker Reabetswe Molapo and Mrs Universe Africa Finalist 2022 Poledi Matjutla before departing to various working stations at Capricorn District Municipality, SABC Limpopo, CDM Water Laboratory located at University of Limpopo. Learners following the science streams interested in pursuing careers in water quality and related fields taking a tour at CDM Water Laboratory located at University of Limpopo. The team was led by Water Lab Manager Mr Neville.
Learners interested to pursue careers in the communication and marketing field in particular radio and television broadcasting, media relations, journalism and drama at the South African Broadcasting Corporation (SABC) were taken through various departments within the SABC by Human Resource Manager Mr Phumudzo. Leaners had an opportunity to meet their favorite radio and TV presenters, journalists and technical teams.
The last two groups of leaners those interested in law went to Polokwane High, those who wanted to pursue careers in Information Communications Technology (ICT) and finance remained at CDM Main Office. The leaners toured the Municipality’s Finance and were taken through the budgeting processes of the municipality from planning, consultation, adoption, expenditure and supply chain. The team was guided by Ms Triphina Kekana (Finance) and Asiti Pheeha (ICT). The learners were grateful for the opportunity and felt highly inspired.
