CDM STRENGTHENS URBAN RESILIENCE THROUGH RISK-INFORMED DEVELOPMENT WORKSHOP

Capricorn District Municipality convened a pivotal Workshop on Urban Risk-Informed Development and Making Cities Resilient. The three-day workshop took place from 07-09 October 2025 at CDM Council Chamber in Polokwane.
The engagement brought together municipal officials, sector departments, and key partners, including representatives from UNDRR, and the GIZ, to advance the development of a comprehensive Disaster Risk Reduction (DRR) Strategy for the district.
The workshop aimed to strengthen local capacity in identifying, assessing, and managing urban risks while aligning district plans with the United Nations’ Making Cities Resilient 2030 (MCR2030) framework.
Through presentations and group sessions, participants explored practical approaches to integrating disaster risk reduction into urban development, spatial planning, and service delivery.
The workshop reinforced the district’s commitment to creating safer and more resilient communities through collaboration, informed decision-making, and inclusive development practices.
