The Speaker of Capricorn District Municipality, Cllr Kholofelo Lehong, led discussions on MPAC oversight challenges at Lepelle-Nkumpi Local Municipality, in line with Section 88 of the Municipal Structures Act, which promotes cooperation between district and local municipalities.Present at the meeting, were the Speaker of Lepelle-Nkumpi Cllr Joyce Nkobela and MPAC Chairperson Cllr Matsobane Mello.
CDM MPAC Chairperson, Cllr Maphuti Mothata, highlighted key challenges, including the lack of dedicated support staff, which hampers the committee’s ability to scrutinise audit and financial reports and fulfil its oversight mandate.
With the 2024/2025 Annual Report Oversight Report due by March 2026, the discussions stressed the urgent need to provide MPAC with adequate human and financial resources.
The meeting reinforced a collective leadership commitment to accountability, transparency, and good governance. The engagement took place at Lepelle-Nkumpi Local Municipality Offices in Lebowakgomo on 05 February 2026.
