Capricorn District Municipality (CDM) emerged as a proud winner at the 45th International Science Fair (Eskom Expo for Young Scientists) held at Emperor’s Palace, Johannesburg, from 07–10 October 2025.Represented by eight exceptional young scientists from across the District, Capricorn District showcased innovation, excellence, and talent on the national stage — reaffirming its commitment to nurturing future leaders in science, technology, and innovation.
The Member of the Mayoral Committee (MMC) for Strategic Executive Management Services, Cllr Solly Mahlatji, attended the prestigious event on behalf of the Executive Mayor Cllr Mamedupi Teffo to support the learners who had excelled at the regional competition to earn their place among South Africa’s brightest minds.
The Capricorn delegation shone brightly with outstanding achievements. Mokgadi Ralefeta from Dendron High School won the Best Mechanical Engineering Project, receiving a laptop and a bursary worth R1.3 million. Lethabo Kgoete from Moleshatlou High School earned the Best Development Project Award, securing a cash prize of R85 000 and a laptop.
Other participants from the District walked away with silver and bronze medals, as well as study materials to support their academic growth.
Cllr Mahlatji applauded the learners for their remarkable success, emphasizing that the awards reflect Capricorn District Municipality’s dedication to empowering young people and promoting excellence in science and innovation.
