CDM RE-LAUNCHES ITS AIDS COUNCILS

“Capricorn District is one district that complies and co-operate with the other stakeholders on issues of AIDS Council, and I’m hoping to see an improvement in the way things are done in the other districts”. These are the words of Limpopo Department of Health MEC, Dr Phophi Ramathuba.

Ramathuba was speaking during the launch of Capricorn District AIDS Councils at Jack Botes Hall, in Polokwane on 31 March 2022. The Aids Councils were launched simultaneously for Capricorn District and its four local municipalities namely, Blouberg, Lepelle-Nkumpi, Molemole and Polokwane with various stakeholders who are going to form part of the councils converging under one roof from across all the indicated municipalities.

The purpose of the District Aids Council is among others to advise the district municipality on policy and HAST programme implementation, identify and recommend appropriate research interventions, oversee the performance of Local AIDS Councils within the district, etc.

The term of this structure is five years. The previous council term ended in November 2021.The District Aids Council comprises of just over sixty members mainly from civil society, NGOs, CBOs, Councillors, officials and others. Members of the DAC were presented with letters of appointment by Limpopo MEC for Health Dr Phophi Ramathuba.
