CDM OPERATIONS AND MAINTENANCE HARD AT WORK IN LEBOWAKGOMO

The Operations and Maintenance team of CDM was hard at work on 14 May 2024, trying to unblock sewage pipelines at the Lebowakgomo area in Lepelle-Nkumpi Municipality. CDM Operations and Maintenance (O&M) activities involved managing and maintaining our Water and Sanitation existing projects to ensure that they are operating efficiently, continuously, and safely.
The two sewage pipelines have been blocked for sometime, which then cause a sewage spillage in some parts of Lebowakgomo. The blockage is caused by stones alleged to have been put in by members of the community to create sewage spillage which will as a result benefit cattle grazing in the area. To ensure a speedy response to operations and maintenance challenges. CDM has recently procured a Jet Machine, worth over R500,000. The Jet machine is used to unblock sewage pipelines. This is the 1st machine to be procured. It is used on a rotation basis in the three locals, namely Molemole, Lepelle-Nkumpi and Blouberg Municipalities. The municipality has plans to procure one for each  local municipality over a period of time within the next three financial years.
The machine is helping the operations and maintenance team to push/suck and unblock the sludge in sewage pipe lines, instead of using the manual drain unblocking rods. This will then help in reducing the turn around time on sanitation problems in communities. It was however difficult to say when the work will be completed in Lebowakgomo, as it depends on what the team discovers as they move along the sewage pipeline. The municipality appeals to the community not only from the area not to interfere with the sanitation infrastructure as this disrupts the municipality’s plans to deliver services to the community.
