Capricorn District Municipality hosted a youth empowerment drive event at Ga-Kibi in Blouberg Municipality on 19 June 2019. The event was part of a series of activities planned to commemorate the youth month. The Youth Empowerment Drive aimed to expose and empower young people to job pportunities, skills development, bursaries and funding opportunities.
Young people were given a platform to interact and promote fruitful rural entrepreneurial culture. The empowerment drive also created a platform for young entrepreneurs to connect, network and share ideas with NYDA, LEDA, Department of Labour, Department of Social Development, Venetia Mine, CETA, Elevation Hub and Activate Change Drivers.
Speaking during the event Cllr Lisbeth Mothata said that the municipality view the work of young people as central to that of the municipality. “The municipality will not succeed in extending the full benefits of democracy to its people, who are mostly youth. The youth should be disciplined and committed to the existing district youth development strategy”, said Mothata.
