Capricorn District Municipality hosted the Youth Parliament for young people from different backgrounds and formations to debate and resolve on areas that drive our economic transformation agenda and identify interventions.
The youth parliament was held at Mohodi Community Hall, Mohodi Ga-Manthata in Molemole Municipality under the theme “25 years of Democracy: A celebration of youth activism”.
The parliament is constituted by youth from across the district who are representing their political parties according to the number of seats they have in the district council. In the youth parliament the Anc is represented by 35, Eff 16 and DA by 5.
Motions discussed were; 25 years after democracy young people in rural areas are struggling to access relevant government information on bursaries and employment, youth and cooperatives as a solution to reduce youth unemployment in the district, youth and abolishment or continuation of tender system in municipalities, increase number of youth representations including youth with disabilities in all positions in the district and local municipalities.
Speaking on behalf of the Executive Mayor of CDM, Mayor of Molemole Cllr. Edward Paya said “we are gathered here today to debate and agree on high impact programmes aimed at skills development and job creation, to ensure effective participation of our youth in socio-economic issues and political discourse of our district & beyond”.
The youth parliament was attended by the youth and councillors from around the district.
