Capricorn District Municipality held an induction session for Audit Committee members at the Landmark Hotel outside Polokwane on 16 October 2025.Standing in for the Executive Mayor of Capricorn District Municipality, Cllr Sammy Selamolela, officially welcomed members of the Audit Committee and thanked them for honouring the session.
In his address, Cllr Selamolela emphasized the importance of the Audit Committee’s independence in strengthening good governance and accountability within the municipality. He commended the committee for its consistent contribution to ensuring that CDM maintains its commitment to transparency, sound financial management, and compliance with legislation.
The MMC for corporate services further encouraged members to continue upholding the integrity of information and to remain focused on maintaining the municipality’s roadmap toward a clean audit outcome. He underscored that their oversight role is crucial in supporting management to implement effective internal controls and mitigate risks that could undermine service delivery performance.
The induction session brought together key oversight and support stakeholders, including representatives from the Auditor-General South Africa (AGSA), the Audit Committee chairperson and members, Provincial Treasury, the Department of Cooperative Governance, Human Settlements and Traditional Affairs (CoGHSTA), the South African Local Government Association (SALGA), the Institute of Internal Auditors (IIA), ISACA, CIGFARO, and SAIGA.
The session is organized by the Internal Audit and Risk Management Units of the municipality, aimed at orientating the Audit Committee members with the legislative framework, internal control systems, and governance processes that guide their role in promoting accountability and performance excellence within the district.
