CDM hold a successful men’s seminar

Capricorn District Municipality held a successful two day Men’s Seminar which took place from 29 to 30 April 2021 at Bolivia Lodge in Polokwane. The men gathered together under the theme ‘Champion men building a society free of GBV and HIV.

Led by the Acting Executive Mayor Cllr Sammy Selamolela the seminar brought together men from various background to engage openly about the various topics related to Gender Based Violence (GBV) and HIV through panel of discussions.

The thought provoking panel discussion under the umbrella topic, What a Man, the panel focused on the Biological perspective, Traditional Perspective, Religious Perspective, GBV and Man – Unpacking the Six Pack, Traditional bias towards GBV and Religious Bias towards GBV.

The panel also looked into the Societal drivers of GBV/Domestic Violence, Anger Management and Household Financial Management, Men & HIV & TB (Testing & screening & living with the

pandemics), and Men’s Sexual & Reproductive Health (MSRH). 

As part of the programme, men were committed to change and there was a Commitment by the Traditional Leaders, an online GBV course and the men did a renewal pledge committing to fight to end GBV. In attendance driving the two day programme were amongst others were entertainment performance by Get Down Productions, Rathabeng Mamabolo, Dr Hlati, Rev Mautji Pataki, Seputla Sebogodi, Dennis Matotoka, Rev. Nemaukwe, Craig Wilkinson and Kgoshi Ngoako Maleboho.

The seminar was held in partnership with various stakeholders from both government sectors and non-governmental organisations.
