ON behalf of the Capricorn District Municipality, I take this opportunity to wish all young people a meaningful Youth Day as we commemorate a Day that affords us an opportunity to reflect on how far we have come in advancing the programme of youth development, particularly the economic transformation for young people.
Although you cannot gather at any venue for this commemoration owing to Covid-19 restrictions, we are alive to your aspirations, plight and dreams for a firm resolve to be given jobs and entrepreneurial opportunities in order to break out of poverty and enjoy a better life.
As Franz Fanon said, “the faces of young people are the faces of our past, our present and our future. No segment in the society can match the power, idealism, enthusiasm and courage of young people”. We continue to see and witness the proof of this with the energy and the will of young people to defeat the devastating socio-economic effects of covid-19 pandemic and we know all you need from this democratic government is a chance – a chance to rise against all odds and deliberately to change your circumstances for the better. It is for this reason that as Capricorn District Municipality, we are known for encouraging and supporting entrepreneurship, education and internship opportunities for young people.
We shall continue to put young people first in all our job creation initiatives and varied empowerment programmes so you can have meaningful reflection about youth development and what it means to commemorate this Day.
Have a fulfilling Youth Day.
