CDM EMBARK ON A PUBLIC PARTICIPATION FOR INSTALLATION OF PREPAID SMART METERS AT MOREBENG

Capricorn District Municipality has today embarked on a public Participation for Installation of the Prepaid Smart Meters at Boeresal Hall in Morebeng, Molemole Local Municipality.

“In Molemole Local Municipality, as at end of financial year June 2021, we were owed R8,6 million by customers and domestic use accounted for the biggest share with R7,6 million,” said Executive Mayor during the presentation.

The MMC for Finance Cllr Maria Ramokolo also chairing the session and MMC for Infrastructure Cllr Maite Mohale were part of the session, accompanied by Finance EXCO member from Molemole Cllr Hlapa and Ward Councilor Tshepiso Rathete.

She added, the fact that the municipality is still owed a lot of money even after there was a debt write-off approved by Council in 2013/2014 financial year, is an indication that the current billing system is not working properly.

“We did a feasibility study to determine what may be the best solution to this challenge and installation of prepaid smart meters came highly recommended. You pay as you use,” emphasized the Executive Mayor simultaneously acknowledging concerns raised by customers on billing.
