CDM celebrate IDDR at Sekiding in Blouberg

“We call upon our communities to work with us in making sure that we reduce disaster risk in our communities and thereby in reasing investment opportunities and development in our arrears,” said Capricorn District Municipality Executive Mayor, Cllr. John Mpe.

Cllr Mpe was speaking during CDM’s event to commemorate International Day for Disaster Reduction at Sikiding in Blouberg Municipality on 23 October 2019.

The United Nations General Assembly designated 13 October Disaster Reduction to promote a culture of disaster reduction and prevention. It is an opportunity to acknowledge the progress made towards disaster reduction, loss of lives, livelihoods and health.

CDM was celebrating this year’s event under the theme ” Adapting to extremes and limiting disaster loss: Pathways to integrated resilience and sustainability for basic services, critical infrastructure, and thriving community.

A crash course was given on what causes disaster in our households or communities and how to prevent that. Communities were encouraged to use the disaster toll free line 0800 666 777.
