In a move set to promote investment opportunities in Capricorn and grow the local economy, Capricorn District Municipality hosted the Investment Summit on 13-14 June 2019 at Meropa Casino in Polokwane with captains of industry and potential investors participating in the drive.
“The Summit takes place at a time when we are celebrating the youth month which recommits us to make significant strides and create jobs for young people”, said MMC Cllr Malebana on behalf of the Executive Mayor.
The summit was an outcome of an extensive research program involving the district’s private, commercial, mining, construction, agricultural and business sectors and resulted in a series of detailed project feasibility studies allowing the municipality to compile a portfolio of pre-qualified and verified viable trade and investment opportunities that are available.
Presentations were made by experts from the agricultural, mining and tourism sectors and representatives from parastatals and stakeholders which included the Land Bank, Industrial Development Corporation (IDC) and Limpopo Economic Development Agency (LEDA) as well as the Department of Agriculture and business leaders.
In his evening gala remarks, the Acting Executive Mayor said “we have seen throughout the Day the many opportunities to do business here in our region and it’s only through partnerships and support that we can achieve our Vision 2040 of transforming Capricorn into a leading region in terms of investor confidence and remain the leading contributor to the provincial economy.
He further reiterated that the world is a global village where continuous competitiveness is the order of the day. We continue to strive for growth in trade and export potential in order to harness foreign exchange. With this we want to take Capricorn district to the world and bring the world to Capricorn.
The summit was attended by representatives of Embassies of Malaysia, United Arab Emirates, Indonesia and Mozambique. The Summit closed with an investment tour to Elimark Farm in Morebeng in Molemole Municipality, Polokwane International Airport, Maloka Machaba Asphalt Plant in Ladanna Polokwane, Bakone Malapa Open Air Museum and Polokwane Game Reserve.
