On 26 August 2026, Capricorn District Municipality (CDM) officially handed over two water supply projects in Zebediela under Lepelle-Nkumpi Local Municipality, marking another important step towards improving access to reliable and sustainable water services for communities.
The handover was led by Member of the Mayoral Committee (MMC) responsible for Infrastructure Services, Cllr Maite Mohale, who represented the Executive Mayor, Cllr Mamedupi Teffo. Cllr Mohale officially introduced the appointed contractors and consultants who will implement the projects.
The first project, Groothoek RWS: Makweng WSIG – Phase 2, has a construction value of R9.62 million. The project includes approximately 6.1km of water pipeline, 80 RDP standpipes, a 150-kilolitre elevated steel tank and fencing of the storage facility.
The second project, the Ga-Rakgwatha Water Services Infrastructure Grant (WSIG) Project, has a construction value of R13.16 million. Its scope includes approximately 6.1km of water pipeline, 60 RDP standpipes, a new 150-kilolitre elevated steel tank, the equipping and electrification of two boreholes, two concrete pump houses, as well as fencing of the boreholes and storage facility.
Both projects commenced on 26 August 2026 following the official site handover and introduction of the contractors and consultants. Construction is scheduled for completion on 26 February 2027.
The projects are expected to improve access to basic water services for households in the affected communities while strengthening water infrastructure and supporting long-term water security.
The handover reaffirmed CDM’s commitment to investing in critical water infrastructure, improving service delivery and responding to the needs of communities across the district.
