CDM MPAC HOLDS STRATEGIC PLANNING SESSION AHEAD OF END OF COUNCIL TERM

The Municipal Public Accounts Committee (MPAC) of Capricorn District Municipality held a two-day Strategic Planning Session from 22–23 June 2026 at Landmark Hotel outside Polokwane.

The session was convened as the 2021–2026 Council term enters its final months, providing an opportunity for the committee to reflect on its performance, achievements and challenges over the past five years. The discussions also focused on assessing the effectiveness of MPACs at both district and local municipality levels and identifying lessons that can strengthen oversight and accountability in the next council term.

Key matters deliberated during the session included audit issues, the status of Unauthorised, Irregular, Fruitless and Wasteful (UIFW) expenditure within the district, risk management matters, an analysis of MPAC’s work during the 2021–2026 Council term, 2026 MPAC resolutions and confirmations, as well as the committee’s draft exit report.

The strategic planning session concluded on 23 June 2026, with members outlining recommendations aimed at enhancing governance, accountability and oversight in the municipality. As the current Council term draws to a close, the session provided a platform for MPAC to evaluate its impact, address challenges encountered during the term and chart a course for continuous improvement in municipal governance and service delivery.
