COMMUNITY SAFETY TAKES CENTRE STAGE AT MINISTERIAL CRIME IMBIZO

On 14 March 2026, the Member of the Mayoral Committee responsible for Development Planning, Cllr Matome Masoga, participated in the Ministerial Crime Prevention Imbizo led by Deputy Minister of the South African Police Service, Mr Cassel Mathale, which took place at Maralaleng Village, Ga-Mphahlele, under the Lepelle-Nkumpi Local Municipality.

“When we worked together, we were victorious. Each stakeholder had a responsibility to contribute effectively to crime prevention,” said Deputy Minister of the South African Police Service, Cassel Mathale, during a community engagement at Maralaleng Village, Ga-Mphahlele.

Mathale emphasised that municipalities, traditional leaders, community safety forums, the police at both provincial and national levels, and communities themselves all had a critical role to play in strengthening safety.

Deputy Minister of the Department of Home Affairs, Njabulo Nzuza, also highlighted the important role played by the Department of Home Affairs in supporting crime prevention efforts.

During the engagement, community members raised serious concerns about the growing challenge of stock theft, which continued to affect many families and livelihoods.

Residents expressed appreciation to the Deputy Ministers for responding to their call for the Imbizo and voiced hope that the discussions would lead to visible and lasting change.
