4th CDM MARATHON A SPECTACULAR SUCCESS

CLOSE to 2,000 runners lit up Polokwane streets in colourful running gear to participate in the 4th Annual CDM 4-In-One Marathon that took place on Saturday morning, 04 June 2022 at Peter Mokaba Stadium.
Having been a casualty of Covid-19 for the past two years, the race brought together scores of runners and spectators to promote healthy lifestyle and for social cohesion. When the Executive Mayor fired the starting pistol at 06h30, runners in four categories of 5, 10, 21 and 42kms spread out onto their routes heading east of Polokwane.
While for some runners it was just a memorable day of fun run and to keep healthy, for most, the eyes were on the R80 000 cash prizes and to qualify for Comrades Marathon. The 5km and 10km categories were clearly for the fun runners, race lovers and part timers while longer, leg-testing, undersubscribed distances (21km and 42km) were for those with strong cardio endurance who sought to prepare for ultra-marathons.
The low winter temperatures in the morning under clear skies gave runners a cool start without worries of rapid dehydration. And after gruelling hours, the lead cars variably ushered the 21km and 42km frontrunners amid loud cheers as they edged towards the finish line.
Executive Mayor Cllr Mamedupi Teffo also took part in the race. During prize-giving, she thanked all runners and sponsors. “Congratulations to everyone who participated and also to those who qualified for Comrades Marathon. We are proud of all of you”, she said.
The winners are as follows:
Men 42km – Jacob Malefo (open), Rufus Photo (veterans) and George Mokolo (masters)
Women 42km – Marelise Retief (open), Gift Ramabele (veterans) and Jane Mudau (masters)
Men 21km – Piet Sebalo (open), Ludwick Mamabolo (veterans) and Bethuel Netshitendze (masters)
Men 10km – Lutendo Mapoto (open)
Women 10KM – Kamogelo Mogano (open)
All race finishers received medals.
