The South African Local Government Association (SALGA) hosted an engagement session themed “Empowering Traditional Leadership for a Sustainable Limpopo” at the Polokwane Royal Conference Centre on 17 November 2025.The event brought together traditional leaders, municipal representatives, and stakeholders from across the province to strengthen collaboration between local government and traditional authorities for sustainable development.
Representing the Executive Mayor of Capricorn District Municipality, Cllr Mamedupi Teffo, Cllr Matome Masoga delivered the welcome remarks, expressing appreciation to SALGA for providing a platform that promotes dialogue between traditional leadership and municipalities. He emphasized the importance of unity, shared governance, and the integration of traditional leadership structures in driving community-centered development initiatives.
“The role of traditional leaders in local governance remains pivotal in ensuring that development reaches the grassroots level,” said Cllr Masoga. “Our sustainability efforts as municipalities can only succeed when we work hand in hand with traditional leadership to promote inclusive planning and service delivery.”
The engagement concludes a shared commitment to build stronger, more resilient communities where both traditional and municipal leadership structures collaborate effectively to improve the quality of life for all residents of Limpopo.
