In the wake of President Cyril Ramaphosa’s announcement of the national lockdown to combat CoVid-19, that no one should go to work effective from after midnight on Thursday 26 March until 16 April 2020, please be reminded that employees in essential services will remain on duty while employees in selected support functions will be on stand-by.

 

Essential service means a service, of which interruption would endanger the life, personal safety, health and wellbeing of the public; and in our context, includes the following –

·       Operation and Maintenance of water supply

o   For water pump operation, supply of bulk and potable water, water tankering, waste water purification and sanitation. 

·       Emergency fire services

o   For any emergencies related to fire and accidents.

·       Municipal Health Services  

o   For contact tracing of covid19 cases, awareness campaigns and monitoring of food quality

·       Disaster Management

o   For prompt response to disaster incidents and emergency calls.

 

Support functions on stand-by include –

·       ICT for remote connectivity

·       Communications for constant statements or updates

·       Finance for the processing of payments and finalisation of orders

 

Emergency number to be used 0800 666 777 for any service delivery and corona related

 

All essential workers will be identified by municipal identity cards with their names and also by municipal uniform.
