DCC WELCOMES progress in attending to damaged roads

The Capricorn District Command Council has welcomed progress made by Roads Agency Limpopo (RAL) to rehabilitate roads that were damaged by the recent rains across the district. This happened on 31 March 2021 during a DCC meeting held virtually.

This includes bridges that were washed off by floods and clogged drainage systems. The extent of damage on such roads makes movement of people and vehicles difficult.

Temporary maintenance work such as blading was done to patch up and close potholes while permanent rehabilitation plans were being made to restore all damaged roads to their condition before the rains and preserve their lifespan.

To this end, 40km of Mathabatha-to-Mafefe road in Lepelle-Nkumpi, 19km of Munnik-to-Morebeng road in Molemole as well as 3km of Mentz-to-Manthata road in Polokwane are being attended to by RAL.

The DCC also resolved to engage the Provincial Government to prioritise in the next phase the vaccination of municipal workers, leadership and traditional leaders who do monitoring of compliance and interact with people daily.

This is because the DCC will be tripling its campaign efforts to monitor compliance by churches, funerals and places of entertainment in order to circumvent the third wave.
