COUNCIL APPOINTS CHAIR OF CHAIRS AS ACTING COUNCIL SPEAKER

The Capricorn District Municipality Council has appointed Cllr. Phuti Masoga (who is currently the Chair of Chairs), as the Acting Speaker of the Council during a virtual council meeting held on 27 June 2024. Cllr. Masoga will act in the position until the new Speaker is appointed.
The position was left vacant when the former Speaker Cllr. Maseka Pheedi took up a new position, as a Member of the Provincial Legislature, following the 29 May 2024 general elections.
The Acting Speaker will ensure that the spirit of collective left by the former Council Speaker is maintained, that the Council complies with the Constitution of South Africa and other local government relevant pieces of legislation, Council portfolio and standing committees execute their duties as expected, a sound and healthy working relationship between the political and administrative leadership of the municipality, to help the Council speed up the process of service delivery, etc.
You might ask yourself what is a Chair of Chairs. This position is the Chairperson who heads the committee consisting of Chairpersons of the various portfolio committees of the municipality.
Cllr. Masoga is serving in the Chair of Chairs position for a 2nd term now. He was 1st appointed in August 2016, and again in 2021.
Cllr. Masoga holds amongst other qualifications, a Municipal Finance Certificate (University of Witwatersrand), Higher Certificate in Public Management, and a Certificate in Project Management (both from Regenesys School of Public Management).
In his political career Cllr. Masoga held several positions in the ANCYL branch level, ANC branch level, SACP branch level at his home village at Moletji – Ga-Phaudi.
