CDM Joins the Province at Sekutupu Old Age Home for Mandela Day
The Executive Mayor, Cllr John Mpe joined the Acting premier of Limpopo, Ishmael Kgetjepe at Sekutupu Old Age home which is situated at the old Groothoek Hospital in Zebediela under Lepelle-Nkumpi today as Mandela Day was celebrated.
The District participated in the 67 minutes by identifying two old people in the area of Lepelle-Nkumpi who are celebrating their centenaries. “As CDM we have contributed by identifying these two old people within our district. Through Mandela’s integrity, courage and strength he showed by example what a single individual can achieve, and in so doing he instilled the belief that injustice, whether large or small, can be defeated” Executive Mayor said.
He further iterated that young people should focus on education for them to be able to interpret legislative frameworks, policies and other directives that the government is wanting to achieve. The Executive Mayor, in partnership with the Lepelle mayor Cllr Nakedi, bought winter gifts for the two old people who are both 100. That is Mr Thole and Mme Mothwa.
About 200 people joined this event and participated by painting the administrative block, doing garden and waste management, washing and ironing and also cooking. Mandela Day is a global call to action that celebrates the idea that each individual has the power to transform the world, the ability to make an impact. The Mandela Day campaign message is: “Nelson Mandela has fought for social justice for 67 years. We’re asking you to start with 67 minutes.”
While on the other side Cllr Betty Kgare joined the MEC of coghsta in handing over RDP house to a 98yrs woman. Men and women were seen painting the house which is at ward 42 in Polokwane municipality under Kgoshi Maraba in Kakspruit.
