
Fifty-four (54) women and children were raped and 65 were sexually assaulted in this area between April and June this year, 2023.
She further said that the brazen nature of some of these rape crimes is also a cause for concern as most of these incidents occurred in public places.
“Capricorn district is known for being a safe, liveable region. We must therefore ensure that we live up to our identity and start building a society where every woman walks the streets without fearing for her safety, where she can pursue her dreams without being hindered by threats of violence,” urged Cllr. Mohale. The women’s Day Commemoration event was also supported by other women leaders, women entrepreneurs and women from throughout the district.
