The learners were grade 10 and 12 learners from schools which were visited by the disctrict municipality during the back to school campaign in the beginning of the academic year this year. The annual Take a girl/boy child to work day campaign is an initiative started by CellC, 15 years ago to give learners an opportunity to explore work place environment, to assist them to make the right career choices. This year’s campaign is aimed at reminding the girl/boy learner that they have the power to make their dreams come true.Since the campaign started in 2003, over 3000 companies and government departments have participated in the campaign.

Speaking during the event CDM Executive Mayor Cllr. John Mpe encouraged the learners to do better at school and work for obtaining distinctions. “For you to achieve your dream, you must believe in yourselves, and use the current opportunities made available by the current government,” said Cllr. Mpe.

One of the learners from Dendron High School, grade 10 learner Selema Mabusha said that, she likes the fact that they were reminded to honour and remember those who fought for the freedom that they are exposed to today. “I stand upon 1st Corinthians, chapter 9, verse 24, that says in a race all the runners run, but only one receives the prize, so run that you may obtain it,” said Mabusha.
