BRAILLE AWARENESS CAMPAIGN AT SETOTOLWANE SPECIAL SCHOOL

Capricorn District Municipality hosted a braille awareness campaign at Setotolwane Special School in Mankweng on 02 March 2022.
The institution is a school to more than forty disabled learners from around the district and neighbouring provinces to Limpopo Province. The campaign was aimed at bringing awareness and making communities appreciate the challenges that blind people were faced with, and to recognise the importance of always being accomodating to blind people by publishing or producing materials in braille.
In attendance was representatives from CDM, Cllr. Solly Mahlatji the MMC for Strategic Executive Management Services, South African Police Services, South African National Association for Blind People, Council for the Blind, Premier’s Office, Department of Health and Disability Empowerment.
Setotolwane is a special school that produced a top grade 12 learner, Lethabo Maleka who hails from Ga-Mphahlele outside Lebowakgomo under CDM, who is blind. He achieved six distinctions. Maleka was a learner at Setotolwane Secondary School who used braille for reading and learning.
